Winning start for newly formed Moving and Handling Team
National Back Exchange was thrilled to announce the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust as the winner of their nationally recognised Moving and Handling Day pledge competition.
The newly formed Royal Free London Moving and Handling team was chosen as over 500 people registered to join the NBE online awareness campaign on the 29th of May.
The winning slogan struck a chord with the judges, demonstrating the commitment and initiative of the Royal Free London team as they develop new work streams and collaborate to support a culture of safety for colleagues and patients.

Getting involved
When NBE announced their first ever National Moving and Handling Awareness Day initiative, the team were excited and determined to use the opportunity to spread awareness of safer Moving and Handling and to raise the profile of their newly formed Manual Handling Team across the trust.
Anupa Binoy, Senior Manual Handling Advisor and Service Lead said:
“National Back Exchange initiatives and events always focus on improving standards, standardising practices and achieving excellence in all the aspects of Moving and Handling. For a Moving and Handling professional, it is the best platform to learn from, to participate with and to get recognised!”
What happened
NBE’s ‘Did You Know’ headline posters were used to promote awareness at several sites across the Royal Free London.
The staggering statistics placed a spotlight on just how important moving and handling is, and the impact good practice can have.
Did you know:
- Patient impact: 10 days in hospital equals 10 years of physical ageing
- Human impact: 32% of all work-related ill health cases are musculoskeletal disorders
- Financial impact: 7.8 million working days lost due to work-related musculoskeletal disorders in 2023/24
The Royal Free London team used the NBE Awareness Day as a platform to promote effective moving and handling and to provide solutions to current Moving and Handling issues. It was a tricky decision for the judges, but their winning pledge helped them to stand out amongst:
- 8000 LinkedIn visitors
