I qualified as a State Enrolled Nurse in 1977 and a Registered Nurse in 1997.

I spent much of my nursing career working with medical patients eventually becoming a senior nurse on a respiratory unit in an acute NHS Trust on the south coast.

It was whilst working on this unit in 1995 that I was asked to become a link worker in moving and handling. Four years later I became the Back Care Nurse advisor, a post which involved training all applicable healthcare staff in safer patient handling skills.

In 2003, I became the trusts Manual Handling Co-ordinator and Deputy Occupational Health Manager. Within this role and department, I was able to audit the number of musculoskeletal injuries and worked closely with risk management.

In 2009, I left the NHS and went to work for Linet UK as a clinical specicalist, where I met many NBE members at their local groups advising and educating on the clinical benefits of good equipment with regards to moving and handling and spinal log rolling.

In 2012, I went to work for the parent company, Linet CZ, where I spent most of my time teaching in hospitals in Europe, the Middle East and some parts of Africa.

In 2015 I retired from work, but still sometimes work independently.

I have been a member of the Sussex Back exchange since 2000, I spent 16 years as their secretary and became chairperson in April 2017.

I am really looking forward to the role of regional officer as I think that my experience could be very useful. I am still after so many years passionate about moving and handling and cant wait to meet the local group members at their meetings and bringing their idea's back to the Executive.
