Chris Ferguson

I started working in Health and Social care in 1994 for my local authority delivering and maintaining community equipment. I was also part of the health and safety committee writing risk assessments and delivering product training to new OT’s and PT’s.

After spending 15 years in the role and I felt it was time to move on and see how this equipment was prescribed and made people's lives easier when at home. I was appointed as a Specialised Therapy Assistant in 2009 at a local NHS where It was recognised I had a particular interest in patient and staff safety due to my previous employment and knowledge of equipment.  After completing a Foundation Degree at Teesside University, this again gave me the opportunity to become a practitioner ensuring my input was applied during the patients stay and discharge.

After successfully applying for and appointed as a manual handling (MH) trainer my knowledge and passion grew around MH.

I attended Loughborough University and gained a Pgcert in Ergonomics and I am now the Manual Handling/Ergonomics Advisor for the Trust and an Advanced Member of the National Back Exchange (not bad for a time served decorator!).
