I wanted to reach out to our members to share my NBE exec story, in the hope that I may inspire existing NBE members to nominate themselves for a position, to ensure the organisation continues providing support to the moving and handling community for many years to come.  Each year all standing members of the Executive Committee are required to retire from their positions so all posts on the Executive Committee then become vacant for nominations from the membership body. Anyone who hold active membership at both the time of nomination and the time of election are eligible for a position on the Executive.

This is my second year on the Exec. I served my first year as a co-opted member and then was successfully nominated as Communications Officer. Although I have been a member of my local group for many years and served on their committee twice, first as treasurer and then as membership secretary I'd not really thought about joining the NBE Exec but after speaking to Simon Love it felt like an exciting opportunity – and it turned out to be just that!

I have certainly had my eyes opened to the work and commitment of the Exec and the non-Exec team (Professional Affairs Committee, Column Editor, Conference Speaker Organiser). As a long-time member of NBE I had never really considered the machine behind it, so now not only do I have a new appreciation for NBE, but I am proud to be part of that machine.

The Exec committee is made up of people from all corners of the moving and handling world and tt has been a fascinating, and useful, experience working with them all. What I didn't expect when I joined the Exec, was to learn as much as I have - all of which I've injected back into my 'paid' job.

As communications officer, part of my role involves working with the website, so my IT skills have developed enormously. I have been, and currently am, involved with several projects to develop the future of NBE, again learning and developing new skills. I've met loads of interesting people and made some friends along the way.

I won't say it is an easy job, and like any new role it takes time to learn and settle in. It is however, very rewarding being part of something bigger. I would certainly recommend it.

Nominations are invited for members to form the Executive Committee.

The posts available for nominations this year are

  • Chairman
  • Vice Chairman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Membership Secretary
  • Public Relations Officer
  • Communications Officer
  • Regional Officers (4 posts)

Please consider standing for one of these roles to ensure that the work of NBE continues and becomes the organisation you would like it to be.

Nominations must be submitted using the form below. All nominations must be received into the NBE administration offices on or before midday on Friday 17th July 2020. Forms received after this deadline will not be eligible for consideration prior to the AGM when any vacant positions will be offered for nominations from the floor.

This information can also be found on the Members' Forum.
